Vice President Structured Finance

The Vice President of Structured Finance will be responsible for tax equity finance structuring, negotiations, and execution, power purchase agreement (PPA) pricing, project finance modeling, financial planning and analysis (FP&A) support, and other strategic planning efforts for Standard Solar, a developer, installer and owner of solar energy systems.

 

The ideal candidate will be willing and able to initially take a hands-on approach, dive deep into financial models, establish a long-term departmental vision, and cultivate a self- sufficient team that reduces his/her need to remain in the trenches on a day-to-day basis.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Negotiate legal and operative documents for tax equity, project debt, and back leverage transactions.
  • Prepare timelines and responsibilities as structured transactions are identified.
  • Work with internal resource teams (Business Development, Diligence, Engineering, Construction, Accounting, O&M) and external teams (Legal, Tax Equity Investors, Advisors, Independent Engineers, Appraisers, etc.) to establish and monitor workstreams.
  • Prepare financial analyses for contract negotiations and product investment decisions
  • Support Standard Solar’s business development team by ensuring accurate modeling and analysis of solar energy project economics to calculate profitable Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) pricing.
  • Oversee multiple workstreams of PPA pricing requests, ensuring proper documentation of assumptions and quotes in Salesforce.
  • Acquire and communicate relevant information about federal, state and local solar energy incentives to Standard Solar stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement process for pricing strategy, tools, and process through trend analysis and tracking actual vs. expected results.
  • Recommend and track benchmarks for measuring financial and operating performance
  • Establish short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
  • Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the departments goals and objectives
  • Develop and manage accurate and understandable financial models in MS Excel and on other financial model platforms for internal and external audiences.
  • Effectively socialize new concepts and engage internal groups to launch and close all types of structured finance transactions.
  • Promote a culture of innovation by continuously challenging the staff to seek out process improvement initiatives, automation enhancements and idea generation to ensure transactions are being run optimally.
  • Responsible for guiding workflows and monitoring the work output of staff.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff and foster development of employees and teams.
  • Hold self and others accountable for shortcomings in the implementation of strategies/initiatives, documenting lessons learned and recommendations for improvement.
  • Prepare presentation materials for corporate management and project investors.
  • Produce short-term and long-term corporate profitability and cashflow forecasts for management and investors.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

  • Manages the Structured Finance Department.
  • Recruits and hires financial staff and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Coordinates training programs for new staff and identifies training needs for current staff.

 

Minimum Education, Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or another related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Eight years or more of related experience.
  • Experience structuring tax equity transactions strongly preferred
  • Proficient in financial modeling concepts.
  • Expert with MS Excel, and highly skilled with other MS Office products including PowerPoint and Word.
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with all departments within company.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines and work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong grasp of financial/accounting principles.
  • High attention to details.
