SCADA Engineer, Houston

Our client, a rapidly growing company in the renewable energy sector, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated SCADA Engineer to join their team. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in utility-scale solar power plant SCADA design and construction, with extensive knowledge of solar plant systems. This role is critical in enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and performance of their solar energy projects.

 

 

Key responsibilities for this role will include (but not limited to):

 

 

· Managing the development and design of SCADA systems tailored for solar power plants and implementing these designs successfully during construction and O&M phases.

· Collaborating with cross-functional teams (Performance, Project Delivery, and O&M) to integrate SCADA solutions seamlessly with new or existing infrastructure.

· Coordinating with Procurement and Supply Chain Teams to ensure the technical accuracy, and timely, and cost-effective acquisition of required equipment.

· Working with vendors, EPCs, and engineering consultants to integrate new hardware and software components.

· Overseeing the design and implementation of robust communication networks for efficient data transfer and control between solar field components and central monitoring systems.

· Ensuring network security protocols are implemented correctly to safeguard against cyber threats.

· Monitoring and communicating alarms and notifications for quick response to system anomalies.

· Utilizing SCADA data to conduct performance analysis and identify areas for improvement in solar power generation.

· Developing and implementing standard operating procedures and preventive maintenance procedures to ensure continuous and reliable SCADA system operation.

· Providing training to O&M teams on SCADA system usage.

· Ensuring SCADA systems comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.

· Reviewing contractor and vendor equipment submittals to confirm SCADA compliance with IFC drawings.

· Coordinating with Owner’s Engineers, EPCs, and engineering consultants to review and finalize design drawings per contract requirements.

· Assisting in the coordination of project commissioning activities, including system testing, performance verification, and operational readiness.

 

 

Required and desired skillsets, experience, and qualifications for this role:

 

 

· Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably electrical, computer science, or renewable energy-related fields).

· Professional Engineer license preferred.

· Working knowledge of relevant electrical codes and standards.

· Familiarity with cybersecurity principles related to SCADA systems.

· Experience with PLC programming, HMI development, and communication protocols.

· Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities while maintaining relationships with contractors and coworkers.

· Knowledge of Substation, Switchyard, and Battery Storage design, and utility interconnection is preferred but not required.

· Ability to utilize Excel spreadsheets, create Excel trackers, and be able to use Word and Powerpoint for reporting/presentations via teams or in person.
