Principal Water Infrastructure Engineer – Wastewater Collection Systems (Hybrid)

Join a well-established, employee-owned engineering consulting environment specializing in water infrastructure and serving public sector clients across multiple regions. The team is known for delivering data-driven solutions that support the planning and optimization of critical wastewater systems for growing communities.

 

This role focuses on leading technical efforts related to wastewater collection system planning, with an emphasis on hydraulic modeling, system evaluation, and long-term infrastructure strategy development.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead wastewater collection system planning efforts, including hydraulic modeling and system assessments
  • Develop and apply modeling tools to evaluate system capacity, performance, and future needs
  • Analyze flow data, population trends, and system conditions to support planning decisions
  • Contribute to master planning and long-term capital improvement strategies
  • Assess regulatory requirements and support compliance efforts
  • Prepare technical reports, studies, and planning documentation
  • Review and ensure quality of technical work produced by other engineers
  • Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance on modeling and planning methods
  • Support project coordination and, when needed, contribute to project management tasks
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions
  • Communicate findings directly with clients and support proposal development efforts

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain)
  • 8+ years of experience in wastewater collection system planning and hydraulic modeling
  • Proficiency with tools such as InfoWorks, SewerGEMS, or similar
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, and engineering/data analysis tools
  • Strong understanding of wastewater system evaluation, including infiltration/inflow and capacity planning
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with clients and supporting proposals preferred
  • Master’s degree is a plus
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers is highly valued
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as needed
