Our client is looking for an Electrical Engineer 5 to assist with their projects in various locations such as Dallas and Houston. For this role, you will work as a technical specialist or as a lead substation designer on distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission level voltage classes. As a team leader, you are also accountable for the overall execution and quality of substation projects.

• Establish and maintain budgets and schedules for substation design projects, as well as providing guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable codes, and business rules.
• Applying knowledge independently and adhering to the company's quality program, providing advice and direction, and supporting continuous improvement and change management activities.
• Develops sophisticated engineering deliverables for larger projects, conducts research, creates recommendations, collects, assimilates, and organizes data, and uses conventional procedures to complete computations.
• Handles budget, schedule, and quality requirements, employs advanced engineering techniques, examines lower level engineering work, and manages production teams.
• Oversee job assignments, verify quality, and attend management, project planning, and scheduling meetings.
• Interact with clients, vendors, and subcontractors directly to communicate interests and drivers and to assist business growth initiatives.
• Mentoring less experienced engineers and direct subordinates, providing constructive comments, and taking part in career planning are all examples of responsibilities.
• Manages engineering resources for small groups of engineers specializing in a specific area.
• Overseeing the implementation and communication of policies, procedures, and processes, as well as the approval of timesheets and expense reports.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an authorized program.
• Minimum of 8 years of related work experience.
• Experience with power/power systems is preferred.
• Experience with quality assurance and quality control of substation design projects, as well as experience with substation design (physical & P&C).
• Advanced understanding of engineering design principles and applicable design guidelines and standards for the given engineering field.
• Complex engineering calculations/studies for substation projects such as lightning protection, conduit fill, AC/DC station service loading, surge arrester sizing, and voltage drop are performed.
• Experience with 500KV - 13.8KV substations, various voltage classes, open air and/or GIS, and designing various bus configurations.
• Knowledge in calculating the sizing of auxiliary power equipment and creating wiring diagrams for safety relay panels.
• Ability to utilize Excel spreadsheets, create excel trackers, and be able to use Word and Powerpoint for reporting/presentations via teams or in person.
